I think we’re a long way off from this kind of technology replacing cardboard, but it sure is an amazing proof of concept! Surfacescapes Demo Walkthrough from Visual Story TAs on Vimeo.
Just a quick post today… I was looking around online and managed to find some guys who filmed a three part Space Hulk video battle report. It really gives a great overview of the game! If watching other nerds on the internet play board games is your sort of thing, I recommend spending the next 25 minutes watching these videos.
Sorry for the lack of updates but I have been a little busy lately. I am, however, excited for the upcoming Congress of Gamers board game convention. Congress of Gamers is a local DC Metro Area convention that is in its second year. They feature two days of open gaming, scheduled gaming, vendors, a bring [...]
I have known about Tasty Minstrel games since their inception, due to reading my friend Seth Jaffee’s board game blog. They are a very new indie board game company that are starting out by releasing two games:Homesteaders by Alex Rockwell and Terra Prime by Seth Jaffee.
This past week I spent a lovely vacation with some friends on the outer banks of North Carolina. It was a fantastic time spent lazing the days away on the beach, in the hot tub, in the pool, etc. However, the very first day we arrived there was rain drizzling down and a bit of wind blowing. Not such great beach weather, so I suggested that we play some games.
I’ve been meaning to post about DowntimeTown for some time, but always seem to forget. Finally, I made a list of things to post about on this blog, and here we are! Robert Florence is a Scottish comedian who seems to love making videos and posting them to the net. He used to do episodes about video games, but now has started in on a board game show. DowntimeTown has just come out with episode number 6, and like all previous shows, is very entertaining.
I have 42 unplayed board games and card games in my collection (and a few more on the way!). That is a shocking amount, as it is surely more games than most people own. However, I happen to own 418 board games, card games, and board game expansions. This means I have played 89.95% of [...]
A while back I read an interesting post on BGG about a new game company called Indie Boards and Cards. Their model was unique; rather than publishing a board game or card game with a typical print run of a few thousand titles, they utilize print-on-demand methods and create a very small amount of games. The games are submitted by designers and subjected to an apparently rigorous peer review process. By doing this, they make sure that the game they publish is decent and that they can sell all the copies that are produced.
I recently went on a game buying binge… well, more of a game pre-ordering binge. To be fair, I have not been spending my monthly allocated board game budget for a fair while, so this is not anything financially dangerous. It is, however, totally ridiculous. It will take me months to play all of these new games. But between pre-order discounts, item scarcity and exciting new releases, I have managed to order fourteen new board games and expansions!
I was very pleased to see that Games Workshop has finally announced the often rumoured re-release of their game Space Hulk. I coveted this game quite a bit when I was little, and it was way to expensive. Then it went out of print for 15 or so years and commanded insane prices on eBay. It’s finally back, and I can’t wait to pick up a copy!
